Estate Agents Warned Over ‘Portal Juggling’(Posted On: 11/08/2016)

Estate agents who deliberately mislead potential homebuyers through the practice known as ‘portal juggling’ are being warned that they could be prosecuted and face a ban from working in the industry. The warning comes from the National Trading Standards Estate Agency Team (NTSEAT), which has confirmed that the practice is in breach of trading regulations and – in some cases – can be fraudulent.

An order banning a Brentwood man from estate agency work has taken effect after successful legal action by the National Trading Standards Estate Agency Team (NTSEAT). Sean Boggans was given a prohibition order under Section 3 of the Estate Agents Act 1979 after he was convicted of manslaughter in September 2013.

Rogue letting agent jailed(Posted On: 15/07/2016)

A letting agent in Barnet has been jailed for four and a half years after he admitted five counts of fraud at Harrow Crown Court. This concludes a four-year investigation by Barnet Council Trading Standards. Letting Agent Martin Marcus had defrauded landlords and tenants of a total of £200,000 in rents and deposits and worked under a number of aliases and company names over the years.
